NEW RELEASE TUESDAY – JUNE 18, 2019

Happy “where’d all my money go?” new release Tuesday, everyone!

As you know, the most exciting day of the week in this community is the day that follows the one we all dread (Mondays for the nope) and today we’re going to highlight some of the new books chipping away at our bank accounts — but each one is so worth it.

HITHER, PAGE is a new series starter by Cat Sebastian. This m/m romance is a set in a small town and features a jaded spy and a shell shocked country doctor who team up to solve a murder in postwar England. Hollis has a review for this one coming this week!

PROMISE ME NOTHING (Hermosa Beach #1) by Jillian Liota. This is a new series for this author that has characters in their early mid twenties but with a bit of a NA feel. This is a book about family, reconnecting and letting you guard down to make bonds with those around you. There’s a great romance in the centre of this story and Micky had an early copy of this one (and enjoyed) so watch for her review on the blog soon.

BROKEN PLACES & OUTER SPACES by Nnedi Okorafor is a non-fiction, auto-biographical offering from this science fiction writer. The blurb really caught me up because I didn’t realise the life changing experiences she has undergone that have led her from being able-bodied to paralyzed and becoming a successful author. She explores the lives of other famous people in history and how they have used their hardships to push creative boundaries.

KISSING GALILEO (Dear Professor #2) by Penny Reid is the second romance in the academic world, previously released to newsletter subscribers weekly but now bundled as a book for release. This newsletter subscriber is the type to wait for the book, so I am pretty hyped up by now for this. This promises to be a quirky, intelligent, hot for the professor tale. As with the previous release in this series, the first month’s release proceeds go to charity, so that’s worth your click.

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY – JUNE 11, 2019

Happy “where’d all my money go?” new release Tuesday, everyone!

As you know, the most exciting day of the week in this community is the day that follows the one we all dread (Mondays for the nope) and today we’re going to highlight some of the new books chipping away at our bank accounts — but each one is so worth it.

THE FRIEND ZONE by Abby Jimenez is a women’s fiction title that is getting tons of buzz right now in Romancelandia and is a read that will make you laugh, cry, and cry-laugh. My favourite kind of book! This four-star read (Hollis’ review will be up later today!) is also the author’s debut which is very exciting.

FIX HER UP by Tessa Bailey is first of all a cover draw to me. This is a fake-dating romantic comedy in the backdrop of home renovations, featuring a washed up baseball star. I’ve seen buzz from friends who have read it early and I’ll be drawn to this when I’m in the mood for fake-dating goodness.

GETTING PLAYED by Emma Chase is an audio only release until the kindle and paperback release in October. If you’ve not met Emma Chase’s brand of romcom, you’re in for a treat. Dean is an easy-going teacher who has a one night stand, the end. Or not, because she’s mother of one of his new pupils…sounds fun.

STORM AND FURY by Jennifer L Armentrout is one for the fans of her Dark Elements series. It takes some aspects of that series and flies with it in a few ways it seems. The focus is on the supernatural and in particular, shape-shifting gargoyles. With demons, gargoyles and ghosts, this sounds a bit too scary for Micky!

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY – JUNE 4, 2019

Happy “where’d all my money go?” new release Tuesday, everyone!

As you know, the most exciting day of the week in this community is the day that follows the one we all dread (Mondays for the nope) and today we’re going to highlight some of the new books chipping away at our bank accounts — but each one is so worth it.

SORCERY OF THORNS by Margaret Rogerson, one of the first YA fantasy books I’ve liked this year, is out today! If you love magic, nemeses/enemies reluctantly teaming up to save the world, and are fascinated by the concept of living books, you definitely need to give this one a try! Hollis’ four star review will be up on the blog tomorrow!

GHOSTS OF THE SHADOW MARKET by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link & Robin Wasserman, is a collection of eight short stories set in the Shadowhunter world. Having recently been drawn back into the OG The Mortal Instruments universe with the recent release of THE RED SCROLLS OF MAGIC (also by Clare and co-written by Wesley Chu) I’m keen to read these novellas from both before and during that same era.

CINDER & THE PRINCE OF MIDNIGHT is Susan Ee’s first release since 2015 and hoo boy am I excited. This dark reimagining of Cinderella (with fae?) released yesterday, June 3rd, and you know I snapped it up. Because let’s be real, it’s Susan Ee. I was already 60% invested without a synopsis or a cover (though I’ll admit I wouldn’t mind a prettier one..) and I can’t wait to reconnect with her words, and her creative brain, again.

THE TIGER CATCHER by Paullina Simons is the start of a contemporary trilogy that apparently breeches time and space… intrigued? So am I. There are themes of love, grief and searching and these two characters, Julian and Josephine, seem somewhat starcrossed. I’ve not read this author before, but I’ve heard plenty about THE BRONZE HORSEMAN and I want to give this book a go.

THE REST OF THE STORY by Sarah Dessen sounds like the classic coming of age YA contemporary but bringing in some interesting dynamics. Emma’s mother died when she was 10 and now shes about to reconnect with some of her family that have been in the background. I like the sound of the class divide in this story and also, there’s a boy.

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY – MAY 28, 2019

Happy “where’d all my money go?” new release Tuesday, everyone!

As you know, the most exciting day of the week in this community is the day that follows the one we all dread (Mondays for the nope) and today we’re going to highlight some of the new books chipping away at our bank accounts — but each one is so worth it.

THE GOOD MAYOR by Andrew Nicholl is a historical novel set in the Baltic about a good, steadfast man, the mayor, and his love for his secretary. The secretary is married, though, so this is not a straight forward situation; but the synopsis has a lot of heart. I’m wondering what the author will do with this to make a potential cheating situation justifiable. Micky was fortunate to get an early copy and the review will be coming soon.

FIELD NOTES ON LOVE by Jennifer E Smith is a YA contemporary fiction about coincidences adding up to a lot more than chance. This is a UK release date, as it is already out in the US. Sextuplet Hugo is about to embark on a cross country rail trip in the US and he needs someone with the exact name of his ex-girlfriend to be able to take the trip with him. He finds his Margaret in more ways than one. This was a cute read and Micky’s 3 star review will be up on the blog soon.

SAVAGED by Mia Sheridan is out this week and news only broke a few weeks ago. I can say that the blurb gives me Archer’s Voice feels and I’m pretty excited about that element. The story centres around a double murder that the protagonist Harper is investigating. Some evidence points to a suspect described as a savage, Lucas. Let me at it and it has just been made live, go go go!

MINE by Courtney Cole is a psychological thriller to finish off the releases we’re interested in for this week. The story is focused on a woman’s worst nightmare, finding nudes on her husband’s device. In the midst of a hurricane, the wife lures the mistress over and at the end of the storm things look very different. Definitely one for when I’m in the mood for a good thriller.

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY – MAY 21, 2019

Happy “where’d all my money go?” new release Tuesday, everyone!

As you know, the most exciting day of the week in this community is the day that follows the one we all dread (Mondays for the nope) and today we’re going to highlight some of the new books chipping away at our bank accounts — but each one is so worth it.

BIRTHDAY by Meredith Russo is an #ownvoices book that blew me away, brought me to (constant) tears, and basically consumed me in such a way that I read the entire book in one sitting. It’s such a rare experience, particularly when it’s an author you’ve never read before, but I fully intend on devouring Russo’s backlist and reading anything and everything she puts out in the future. You want this book.

UNDENIABLE by Melanie Harlow, can we count this, it releases on the 20th May? Of course, we can; our blog, our rules. I am a inconstant Melanie Harlow fan, I have really enjoyed many of her books but I don’t keep up with the releases but this one sounds gooood. It’s a second chance romance where the two main characters have grown up together but cross paths 20 years later. This kind of story can be addictive to me so I’ve added to my TBR and definitely will give it a go.

WAISTED by Randy Susan Meyers caught my eye with it’s interesting cover and title. This is a fictional story about an extreme weight loss documentary and the seven women involved in it. This documentary isn’t all it seems and with each pound of weight lost, a battle for power ensues and these women need to take control. I’ve added it to my TBR and I’ll be looking to give this a go when I need a palate cleanser between romance and fantasy.

THE ASSISTANT by Marni Mann is a romantic thriller and I had to be so controlled over by click finger with this one on Netgalley as the review date was too close for me to manage to squeeze it in. Suffice it to say this is my most anticipated release of the week. In this book, a successful career woman, with difficult pressures on her life, hires her husband an assistant for their shared company while she needs to be away from the business. She’s the perfect assistant…

A FIVE-MINUTE LIFE by Emma Scott that was released last week but not in time for our previous new release post. It is a standalone new adult romance from an author that knows how to write emotionality. The heroine in this book has the worst case of amnesia documented and everything is diminished to what happened in the last five minutes, that and notes and reminders. This quick description really drags me in so although I’ve not caught up on her last few releases, I want this one first. Now, I loved the cover, but it has already undergone a cover change in the first week for business reasons. Any thoughts on the two covers?

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY – MAY 14, 2019

Happy “where’d all my money go?” new release Tuesday, everyone!

As you know, the most exciting day of the week in this community is the day that follows the one we all dread (Mondays for the nope) and today we’re going to highlight some of the new books chipping away at our bank accounts — but each one is so worth it.

RED, WHITE & ROYAL BLUE by Casey McQuiston. This is going to be one of the easiest five stars I give all year — and yes I know it’s only May. Diversity, fun, politics, swoony banter, email exchanges.. this book has it all. If you didn’t preorder this because that’s just not your style, well, rejoice! It’s now out in the world being amazing and making history (huh). If you’re still not convinced, read Hollis‘ aforementioned five star review here.

WE HUNT THE FLAME by Hafsah Faizal is a title that has been getting much hype! I follow the author on twitter, and am a fan of her IceyDesigns etsy shop, and have loved watching her writing and publication journey. Very excited to read the first (of three?) of her Sands of Arawiya series. Micky is also bubbling about this one and has a special edition coming from the Illumicrate debut box.. all the excitement.

I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST by Mason Deaver. This is a YA contemporary LGBTQ+ novel featuring a nonbinary lead character and honestly that’s enough to recommend it right there.

UNBROKEN by Jay Crownover is a novella start to her new Loveless, Texas series. This story follows bad boy Crew, a rodeo star and Della who’s company is sponsoring his pretty, rugged face. I’ve not read Jay’s work for a few years so I was pretty enthusiastic about giving this new series a go because who doesn’t like a cowboy? This was a 3 star solid start for Micky and her review will be on the blog this week.

STEPSISTER by Jennifer Donnelly is a dark fairytale take on Cinderella and the protagonist is the ugly stepsister. Interested? I certainly felt pulled in by this blurb because the twists promised in this look to be epic. The cover is all dark lusciousness and I find I want more dark fairytale retellings. Micky gave this 3.5 – 4 stars and Hollis gave it 4.5. The double review will be coming up soon.

SERIOUS MOONLIGHT by Jenn Bennett is out in the UK this week (Hollis has already read this one). I’m a little late with my review copy (it happens) but I am all anticipation about anything Jenn Bennett. SERIOUS MOONLIGHT has an author (oooh!), an introvert, and some intrigue. I find all the aforementioned appealing so I’d be a-clicking.

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY – MAY 7, 2019

Happy “where’d all my money go?” new release Tuesday, everyone!

As you know, the most exciting day of the week in this community is the day that follows the one we all dread (Mondays for the nope) and today we’re going to highlight some of the new books chipping away at our bank accounts — but each one is so worth it.

Helen Hoang’s sophomore novel is out today in the US and Canada! Following an autistic male lead and a Vietnamese immigrant, who also happens to be biracial, THE BRIDE TEST is as diverse as it is swoony. Micky will be reviewing this for the UK date soon but you can find Hollis’ four star review here.

HER ROYAL HIGHNESS, the second book in Rachel Hawkins’ Royals series, is an f/f YA contemporary featuring a Texan girl who goes to a Scottish boarding school for a year of high school, only to end up rooming with an actual Scottish princess. Hijinks, tropes, cliches, ensure, but all the best kinds! Hollis four starred this one, too. Review is here.

TOP SECRET by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy marks the duo’s return to m/m for the first time in three years (!). My brain is mostly just a room full of monkeys clapping cymbals because I’m excited and don’t know what to expect because it, go figure, has been kept so top secret. I full intend to be devouring this shortly after it goes live, though.

THINGS WE NEVER SAID by Samantha Young brings a long awaited return to Hart’s Boardwalk and the story of Dahlia and Michael. There’s a friendship and family-centric writing style to this couple’s story in what is a compelling second chance romance with a small side of suspense. Micky gave this four stars and the review is here.

PRIDE, PREJUDICE, AND OTHER FLAVORS by Sonali Dev is a Desi context contemporary romance. If you’ve never read Sonali Dev then seriously what are you waiting for? Sonali Dev writes a full cast of characters and they’re all unique. The heroine Trisha is a quirky, socially awkward surgeon and the hero DJ is an elite chef. The story was pretty unusual and I felt no sense of having read this before. Micky’s review is here!

AURORA RISING by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is probably the read most anticipated by both of us and we have cried into our coffee and tea over the lack an ARC. We just wanted this so much, sob! The words space cadet, sociopathic scientist, and tomboy pilot have been thrown around and we are there for this.. and it’s finally here. Micky has spent silly money on a few special editions and Hollis broke the internet trying to order from Goldsboro (yes, it was her fault).

FINALE by Stephanie Garber is out, the final in this popular fantasy trilogy. I haven’t read any of this series centred on the Caravel, a once-a-year performance where the audience gets involved, BUT now they’re all out I fully intend to blitz this series (Hollis probably will, too). I have heard so much good from my fantasy-loving friends that it’s a priority for me this year.
